The Lighthouse on Monhegan Island
Its watch is island-bound amidst waters dicey and distant. For those from away, elusive are the glimpses of this venerable one. When espied upon the deep however, there can be no doubt as to the name and place of this guardian.
The beacon’s foothold is firmly rooted within history – never to be diminished. Yet the present is where its light steadfastly shines; guiding, inspiring and sustaining islanders near, and admirers from away.
Its charm is rousing and its mystique, imponderable. For the lighthouse on Monhegan Island concurrently straddles a divide that you and I cannot cross. That divide is time itself. The sentinel surely stands in the offing, yet its essence is derived from a time beyond our reach.
All the more reason why a diverse people are drawn to its irresistible allure. Gleam on, oh Monhegan Island Lighthouse, and persist in beckoning our hearts evermore!
