The Lighthouse at Portland Head
If there was ever a lighthouse to make a person feel – and feel deeply, it is Portland Head. From the Strouts and Longfellow to you and me, this captivating place beckons and speaks to all.
The lighthouse is beautiful, the lighthouse is fun. The lighthouse is tradition, the lighthouse is a guardian. We love Portland Head for all these reasons – and more!
Most of all, the lighthouse is a fervent locale, whose sphere of influence goes well beyond the seaborne affairs it does right by. Its very essence is rooted in steadfast compassion.
The inherent empathy connected to this stately beacon not only helps us understand how to feel about elements such as aim and history, but impalpable matters of the heart too.
Maybe Portland Head’s emotional eminence stems from its majestic stand that quivers not in the face of fury. Or maybe it’s because this venerable one exudes a myriad of timeless insights.
To me, the enthrallment inspired by Portland Head Light is derived from its enduring presence, grand elegance and capacity to harbor our emotions begotten of the sea and service to others.
I need not fully discern the appeal of this lighthouse to understand its ardent influence upon countless people the world over. So may its “flame” abide and kindle our affections unfadingly.
