Into the Lantern
A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to make another visit to the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath to admire their “Into the Lantern” exhibit, which features the gorgeous second order Fresnel lens from the Cape Elizabeth Light (east tower). After the visit, I wrote the following:
Enter into a realm of lighthouse history. Herein resides an allure that beckons, particulars that astound and a light that shimmers. A guiding light once aloft upon the deep is now a regal light enshrined for all to see. In the wake of a look in, departure from its majesty is a prerequisite, yet the gleaming remembrance is evermore. For this enthralling experience is as impressionistic as it is nuanced. So peer into the light and let your imagination take flight - to a place outside of time where lighthouses and their keepers yet shine, showing our hearts the way home.
According to the Maine Maritime Museum, “Into the Lantern: A Lighthouse Experience, a full-scale replication of the Cape Elizabeth Two Lights lighthouse tower lantern room, allows visitors to see the original second-order Fresnel lens from the east tower at Two Lights and experience the environment of the lantern room through time-lapsed video projections featuring a panorama of the Gulf of Maine that changes with the weather and seasons. This immersive exhibit is the first of its kind anywhere.”

Saw that several years ago. It is incredible
