Our lighthouse past is always present. We keenly feel its essence. That said, surely time has expunged much depth and detail at the lights – and many of the names of those who stood in the gap for the sake of the mariner have been lost or forgotten.
For every captivating account that abides in history, countless more just as momentous stand in the shadows of anonymity. Why? Duty called. It was everyday life playing out for those who tended the lights. These humble heroes thought nothing more of it – just doing what needed done.

When mainstream awareness and accolades fell short for the dedicated contributions of Wickies and their families, rest assured the spirit of selflessness was still beaming bright – all be it out of sight. Only with the passage of time did what was deemed ordinary, become extraordinary.
Yet, no matter how much of our lighthouse heritage has disappeared or eluded understanding, this amazing legacy endures. A sense of perennial importance still clings to lighthouses in our midst. The light, which guided the past forward into the present, is connecting us all just the same in the here and now. Unquenchable are such glimmerings!
